About Jacquie
It runs in the family
Having grown up in a household where both my mother and her sister were creative hair stylists, I have been an insider of the beauty industry from the time I was wearing acid wash jeans, slouch socks and florescent pink nail polish. My mom and aunt worked to perfect their application of the most cutting-edge 'dos: flips, feathers, shags and placement of big, fat headbands. While my friends were jumping rope and playing hopscotch, I spent most of my childhood in beauty salons watching and learning.
When I was older, I often worked alongside my mother, helping her at beauty parties, where she did the guests' hair and I did the makeup. I enjoyed making little girls look like princesses, but my favorite time of the year was our annual trip to the International Beauty Shows in New York, where we would spend all day playing with makeup and hair products.
Hobby becomes career
As I entered adulthood, my fascination for beauty and makeup continued. While I earned my bachelors in communication from Towson State University and worked in that field for several years, my attraction to the makeup world never subsided. Eventually, I trained professionally at Madison Beauty School where I earned my makeup artistry license.
Now, as I balance my passions for the art of making people beautiful and the art of managing my own household and family, I have established Makeup by Jax, my own business, where I do on-site makeup application for weddings, bar/bat mitzvahs, black tie events and proms.
Lessons learned
My mother taught me a lot during those long days at the beauty shop when I was little. First, use a light-weight hair dryer whenever possible or your arm will fall off. Second, never leave the house without "your face on." And finally, though beauty originates from within every woman, sometimes it can take an expert to bring it to the surface. You have to know the right tricks. Contact me for a consultation.
